Our two passion fruit smoothies Pash N Shoot and Pip Me Up are flying out of the freezer this month! They are both top favourites here in the Love Taste office as they have a lovely clean taste and a slight tartness that is super refreshing on a hot summer’s day.
As they are so popular right now we thought we’d tell you more about passion fruit and why it is so superbly nutritious!
For a start passion fruit contains high levels of vitamin A, which is important for skin, vision and the immune system.
It is also packed with vitamin C. Vitamin C boosts the immune system by helping the body absorb more iron from plant-based foods and may improve the body’s ability to fight off infections.
Passion fruit is also rich in antioxidants, those helpful compounds that mop up harmful free radicals in the body. Scientists know that antioxidants improve blood flow, specifically to the brain and nervous system. They also reduce inflammation in the body.
Its pulp is also packed with dietary fibre. We know a lot of people don’t get enough, yet it is a crucial component of every diet. It helps regulate the digestive system and keep the gut healthy.
This wonder fruit also has a low glycaemic index (GI) value. This means it does not cause a steep increase in blood sugar after eating it, making it a great fruit for people with diabetes.
For anyone on a low sodium diet passion fruit is ALSO loaded with heart-healthy potassium and is also low in sodium.
These all seem like very good reasons to blitz yourself up one of our passion fruit smoothies, made with chunks of real fruit. Choose from Pash N Shoot, which contains de-seeded passion fruit, pineapple and mango or Pip Me Up with seeded passion fruit, pineapple and mango. Yum!
Enjoy!
